World Building Day

Heyo World,

This will be my last blog for this class and luckily today's lecture went off with a bang. Today we heard from the brilliant mind of Jeremy Kamal, a former architect and artist all around. Using the world of 3-D modeling, different kinds of rigging, beautiful sound design and god-like poetry skills, Kamal was able to give life to his ecological landscape tempered by African American hands. This beautiful landscape also has its own flora, models after real speakers and sound speakers and uses real erosion/ different kinds of weathering to make the landscape more realistic yet so other worldly. After all the landscaping for “Da Floods” was explained, you still hear the amazing trap music booming in the background. After the world building comes the characters and their apparel. Their clothes were made more for the look and how the artist would imagine the word would look like, which makes it even better for the aesthetics of this presentation. This is all part of his Trilogy of what if Black Americans started the world instead of the Caucasian overtake of our surroundings. The second and Third installation will be put into a real exhibit like format instead of the movie style he went with today. There are many other works from him and collaborating with other talented artists.

His works inspired me to make my world after he was done with the talk about the different kinds of worlds if it were shaped more towards their nationalities and cultures. Let's say for Chinese- Americans, if it were shaped by our hands instead, what would the landscape be like? Would it be more music derived or will there be more on the natural world and the different medicinal uses of the world around us. Although that is a fantasy of mine, there has to be a sense of realism. So for at least the flora, I think there would be a riff on different kinds of lotus flowers or something that is inspired by one just because of how prevalent it is in our region.

Here is one of the pinker varieties that I think would do well as a hybrid of some sort to make it more medicinally potent in this new world.

The clothing would be more diverse with the drastic climates but a sense of peace and flow with the light and layered clothing that would dance in the wind as the sounds of nature show through.
